
A type of polyunsaturated fat with 3 carbon atoms at the end of the molecular chain. Found in at least 11 types, ALA, EPA and DHA are considered the 3 most important types of omega 3 fatty acids. The human body cannot make omega 3 fatty acids and therefore they have to be obtained from the diet. They contribute to important elements of human health.
