Some brands and retailers alibi label. This where the product does not contain the allergen within its ingredients, but there is a high risk of cross contamination of the allergen in the food manufacturing environment. For example, many bakeries run continuously and do not wet clean, therefore if a nut containing biscuit is produced, the risk of cross contamination is high as with a dry clean it is extremely difficult to eradicate all traces of the allergenic material. And a ‘May Contain Nuts’ or alibi label will be present on BOP.
