Sporulation

Production of spores. This happens in adverse conditions where the vegetative cell is under stress, e.g. in dry or excessively hot/cold conditions. For example Clostridium botulinum vegetative cells can form spores during a normal cooking process e.g. pasteurisation, however, the spores survive and cold germinate under favourable conditions.

See Clostridium botulinum Micro Data Profile.
